CONDUCTING INTERN

Michael Blackwood

MCM has launched a new internship program to help train young choral conductors, and our first intern is Michael Blackwood.

Michael Blackwood, a Walla Walla native, is a recent graduate of Whitman College. Michael began his musical studies in middle school. Since then, Michael has performed in various bands and choirs, most recently the Whitman College Chorale and Whitman College Chamber Singers. Michael has studied voice with Julie Jones, Dr. Robert Bode, and Karen Zizzi. Michael has been a conducting student of Dr. Jeremy Mims, professor of music at Whitman College. Michael graduated cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree in music theory. He wrote his thesis on Beethoven's Appassionata sonata. Michael works at the Colville Street Patisserie in Walla Walla, and serves as a Chism Research Assistant at Whitman College. He plans to continue his studies in conducting and music theory at the graduate level, after his tenure with the Mid-Columbia Mastersingers.
